AOP Red Dot charity auction date

Keep the evening of 2 December free for the opportunity to pick up an early Christmas present in a good cause. The AOP's annual Red Dot auction will be held at its gallery, 81 Leonard Street, London EC2, in aid of the PhotoVoice charity, with bidding starting at just £40 for signed prints by Association members. The auction will be held between 6.00 and 9.30pm and there are more details here. An exhibition of the work runs at the gallery from 3 December until 14 January 2010.

Mark Edwards Hard Rain project presentation

We featured the powerful Hard Rain project, instigated by Mark Edwards of Still Pictures and inspired by the famouse Bob Dylan song, in Ag44 (click). Now anyone within striking distance of Trafalgar Square can see a presentation of it at St Martin-in-the-Fields on the evening of 16 November, 7.00-8.30pm, admission free. Impressions Gallery portfolio reviews

Impressions calls for photobooks

Impressions Gallery in York is calling for independently published photobooks to be offered for sale during its Photography Book Fair Weekend, 24-25 October 2009. Ag at Focus On Imaging - Free Seminars

Once again Ag magazine will be at Focus On Imaging, forming The Hub with Linhof & Studio, BJP and Land & Light, and helping present a series of free seminars. Focus is held at Birmingham's NEC from Sunday 24 February until Wednesday 27 February. Ag editor & publisher Chris Dickie will be giving a talk on How to Make & Publish a Photobook on the Sunday afternoon, and copies of his new book on the subject will be available on the stand (Q26). Rhubarb-Rhubarb 'Cultivates' London

Rhubarb-Rhubarb, organisers of the UK’s International Festival of the Image, is putting on a series of three Saturday events at London College of Communication, London SE1, for photography graduates and others beginning in the business, under the heading Cultivate. The aim is to provide information and advice for those embarking on a career in the field. The seminar series will be held on the 9th and 16th of February, and there is an all day portfolio review session on 1st March.

Victorian photography: Free talks & events

Victorian Visions is an exhibition and events programme being held at Lady Lever Art Gallery (Port Sunlight Village, Wirral, near Liverpool) from 1 December until 16 March 2008 featuring several famous names from the period. A series of free talks during December and January has already been timetabled and you can find full details at the Lady Lever Art Gallery website.

AOP charity print auction

The Association of Photographers is holding a print auction on 12 December in support of SightSavers. Digital Printing Workshops with Tim Daly

Following on from last year’s successful events, we have arranged two new weekend workshops led by Ag’s digital imaging and print expert Tim Daly. The workshops are aimed at photographers who would benefit from guidance on image file preparation, hands-on colour management and getting the best results from different printing papers. Ideal for those who are not satisfied with their current print quality output or for those planning to set-up a digital printing workstation in the near future. Throughout the weekend, emphasis is placed on practical, hands-on projects using specially prepared sample files.
Course content includes: Colour Settings in Photoshop, Image file preparation, Raw file preparation in LightRoom, Soft-proofing and colour management techniques, Darkroom-style printing techniques and Printing with profiles.
The sessions are held in small groups, with plenty of one-to-one tutor guidance and assistance and are ideal for intermediate users and beginners. The workshops are run on Apple computers using Photoshop and LightRoom software.
Workshop fee is £200, which includes a light buffet lunch on both days.

Edinburgh photo publishing workshop

Ag's editor & publisher Chris Dickie will be holding two one-day workshops in Edinburgh on the weekend of 13 and 14 October 2007. The workshops follow on from his recent book Photo Projects: Plan & publish your photography in print & on the internet, published by Argentum, and will take participants through all the steps necessary to prepare their work for publication.
